23th-25th of July Jon Erik, alongside Ina Maria Brekke, will be showing DET SKREIK EN FUGL… at Bankkjelleren in Kristiansand.
Based on the authorship of the local poet Vilhelm Krag, a new performance is put together, as well as several new songs folk songs. His words and thoughts are put together in an entirely new way, and the dialog is quickly jumping between referencing his poems and excerpts from short stories. His often simple but sharp and timeless texts are speaking well with each other, and lays the foundation for afterthought through beautiful and poetic pictures. The performance deals with several different subjects we can all relate to, and opens for reflection on ones own life and situation.
He and She meet. Its not the first time. But who are they for each other? And who are they for themselves? They are both people with baggage, collected through life, but are handling their challenges and surroundings very differently. He is a realist, in his own eyes, and no longer sees the point of anything. He wished everything was different. That everything was better. And there’s a lot he does not quite understand. She carries the grief inside. She dresses layer upon layer with feigned optimism, and forgets to take care of herself. To solve, and to fix, so she can actually feel good. The two share their views, observations and thoughts, and perhaps they also each find their way to the same goal, with the help of each other.
The author Vilhelm Krag was also a man of the theater, and wrote several plays, was a stage director and for a period also director of the National Theater in Oslo. It is thus a format that was close to his heart, and the lyrics come home presented in this way in many ways. With his strong connection to his childhood home at Sørlandet, the part of the country that he himself gave a name to, it is clear that this is where this new performance also belongs. This year it is also 100 years since Vilhelm Krag, together with composer Johan Halvorsen, wrote the first southern folk songs, or «Sørlandsviser». This performance comes with brand new songs, composed by Jon Erik, with lyrics based on eternally current poems by Vilhelm Krag.
