Release the KRAKEN

In the autumn of 2024, Jon Erik was on set for the upcoming blockbuster KRAKEN. Here, he takes on the role of Georg, who works at the salmon farming facility where much of the story unfolds. Filming took place in the Sognefjord on the west coast of Norway and in studio facilities in Finland. Jon Erik shares the screen with a stellar cast including Sara Khorami, Mikkel Bratt Silset, Øyvind Brandtzæg, Ingvild Holthe Bygdnes, Jenny Evensen, Steinar Klouman Hallert, Filip Bargee, and Hans Morten Hansen.

KRAKEN is directed by Pål Øie and co-directed by Sjur Aarthun, who also serves as the film’s cinematographer. Øie and Aarthun have previously worked together on productions such as Villmark and The Tunnel.

With a budget of 58 million NOK, KRAKEN is one of the most lavishly produced Norwegian films of its genre. It is produced by Nordisk Film Production AS in collaboration with Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods, with support from, among others, the Norwegian Film Institute and the Western Norway Film Centre.

In its official press release, Nordisk Film Distribution describes the film as follows:

«At the very bottom of Norway’s deepest fjord rests a mythical monster, a massive and deadly creature that sailors across the world have feared for centuries. You probably won’t be going for a swim anytime soon, because you’re about to meet the Kraken.»

When a small village by the Sognefjord is struck by a series of mysterious events, marine biologist Johanne Berge is reluctantly sent to investigate. Strange natural phenomena, eerie sounds from the deep, and a tragic accident raise suspicions of a lurking danger in the fjord. As Johanne struggles with both environmental destruction and her own past, she must uncover the truth before the terror from the deep takes over.

KRAKEN has already been sold to North America, France, Germany, and Spain.
The film will premiere in Norwegian cinemas on February 06, 2026.
