In February 2017 Jon Erik will be in the first production of Birkebeinerspelet – Jakten på Kongssønnen (The Last King). Norway is ravaged by civil war, and the King’s illegitimate son is guarded in deep secret. Half the kingdom is out to kill the boy, and two men have to protect him with their lives and get him safely across the mountain to reclaim the throne. Birkebeinerspelet is the story of the narrow escape that changed the history of Norway. With soldiers in heavy pursuit of the child, the odds of survival are slim.

The play is set in the winter landscape of Sjusjøen where parts of this story actually took place. With more than 50 actors: young and old, professionals and amateurs alike, 20 horses, and a whole lot of action, the audience is brought along to witness a thrilling and powerful story under the starry sky at Mesnavannet.
