On June 7, Kanon Produksjon will take over Southern Norway’s main venue, the theater hall at Kilden Theater and Concert House, when the brand new comedy SPETAKKEL, written by Jon Erik, premieres! Directed by Martin Næss Hald, the play features Jon Erik as the pretentious director David. Joining him on stage are André Lassemo as the theater technician Kåre, Miriam Myrthel Pedersen as the producer Henriette, and Fredrik Landmark as a drama teacher who has brought his class for a work placement at the theater. The students will be played by local youth from Kristiansand.
In SPECTACLE, the fate of the local theater hangs in the balance. Hoping to save her beloved workplace, producer Henriette – a busy and optimistic spirit – hires the renowned director David, hoping to draw audiences back to the theater, unaware of the content of the upcoming production. Confidence in the theater’s revival with the famous artist at the helm runs high, but challenges become evident when the director’s vision proves unclear, especially with the season launch just hours away. Kåre, one of the house’s technicians, becomes an unlikely hero and a key figure in the director’s creative chaos. His knowledge of both the theater and “ordinary people,” along with his practical skills, becomes crucial to realizing the vision – even though he doesn’t fully understand what that vision entails. Amid the chaos, where artistic ambitions collide with reality, these three characters must find a way to balance their differences to save the theater’s future together.
The production puts a magnifying glass on the theater and cultural industry, the audience, “the common folk,” and the society we live in. SPECTACLE is produced by Kanon Produksjon, has a running time of 90 minutes, and will have its world premiere in the Theater Hall at Kilden, in collaboration with Kilden Kultur.
